Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC and the Buncombe County Schools Foundation came together to organize ‘The Real World,’ a budgeting simulation for high school students.

The event took place at the Asheville Event Center in South Asheville. Students from 7 county high schools came together to learn about budgeting, managing a checking account and prioritizing needs and wants.

Most HomeTrust volunteers were table leaders; helping the teens understand their budgets, auditing those budgets, and facilitating discussions about their choices and what they learned throughout the day.

Students also got a taste of insurance shopping in the Real World. Depending on their needs, salary, and job benefits, they shopped for medical, auto and renters insurance policies.
