HomeTrust Bank Named America’s Best Small Bank in North Carolina by Newsweek

Asheville, NC — HomeTrust Bank has been named the “Best Small Bank in North Carolina” by Newsweek in their first-ever ranking of financial institutions that best serve their customers’ needs in today’s challenging times.

As 2020 has reshaped much of American life, financial institutions have significantly changed how they serve customers. To help consumers navigate this new financial landscape and find institutions that best serve their needs, Newsweek developed the first-ever Best Banks rankings.

Assessing more than 2,500 FDIC-insured institutions, Newsweek evaluated bank products and services based on 55 separate factors to determine a best-in-class option in 19 categories – including the best big and small bank in every state. HomeTrust Bank ranked highest in North Carolina’s small banks based on the criteria.

“HomeTrust Bank is honored to be named the Best Small Bank in North Carolina where we’re headquartered,” says Dana Stonestreet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HomeTrust. “Although 2020 has been a challenging year, HomeTrust has lived up to our tagline: Ready for What’s Next. While we could not anticipate a pandemic, we were prepared to quickly pivot to serve our customers in every way possible. HomeTrust staff initiated over 40,000 telephone conversations with customers to check in on them and their banking needs. As a result, we provided loan payment deferrals, waived late fees, and provided other forms of relief. By ensuring our customers took full advantage of all our banking methods, we were able to help them through the challenges this situation presented.”

“For the past 94 years, HomeTrust has focused on our customers in every decision we make, so this award is especially meaningful in 2020,” continues Stonestreet. “We strive to be ‘the best’ and this acknowledgement of the dedication of our HomeTrust team members from an organization of Newsweek’s caliber is truly an honor.”

In the past decade, HomeTrust has transitioned from a rural community bank to a full-service regional community bank with expansion into three additional states, Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina, while also creating a presence in two of North Carolina’s growth markets, Charlotte and Raleigh. HomeTrust continuously improves the banking experience for our customers both virtually and in-person ensuring best-in-class financial service.
