After college, Carson Smith knew he wanted to be a banker after meeting current HomeTrust Market President Rob McCain.
Nearly a decade later, Carson is now part of Rob’s Charlotte team as a Senior Vice President and Commercial Relationship Manager at HomeTrust Bank.
In his role, Carson focuses on underwriting and managing complex transactions, in addition to originating equipment financing, real estate-secured loans, lines of credit, and letters of credit for manufacturers, medical companies, developers, and other commercial-to-middle-market businesses with revenues upwards of $5MM.
Among his representative transactions are term financing for a $15MM owner-occupied warehouse and distribution center acquisition; a $5MM working capital line of credit for an industrial service provider; and a $10MM construction-to-mini-permanent loan for a self-storage property.
Carson enjoys seeing his clients grow and learning how different types of businesses operate, from high level strategy to the fine print. He also prides himself on being an advocate for his clients, ensuring their needs are well-conveyed while simultaneously managing risk.
A Charlotte resident for over three decades, Carson believes that the city still has small-town charm and big-city potential for growth. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and a minor in Spanish for the Business Professions.
He previously worked as a Senior Underwriter and Portfolio Manager at First Citizens Bank, where he originated over $750MM in new transactions as the bank’s overall assets grew from $50BB to $220BB. He also held roles at U.S. Bank and First National Bank.
At HomeTrust, Carson believes there is a true acknowledgment that individuals matter and a distinctive culture which sets the organization apart.
When not working, he enjoys paddle boarding and kayaking on nearby lakes, hiking, playing soccer, and cheering on Charlotte FC.
He and his wife live in the Charlotte area with their two dogs, Wally and Walter, and a grumpy tuxedo cat named Luigi.
